All in a few weeks of learning.
I’m making progress, but this is not yet right. One of the things we rely on in the film/tv industry, is a team of artists and designers who do the research and the work of designing our sets. A thorough production designer and art director have a team to research, draw, and create pre-visualizations for the director to work with.
I’m learning how to use new tools so I can create my own pre-visualizations. And I’m doing the research that tells me what is authentic building and building materials for the era this story is set in.
I’ve learned how to use SketchUp and Blender just enough to get this far. But I know that the roof is SO WRONG. It’s aged thatch, yes, and that is appropriate for the time and place; but the thickness of it? Yeah – that’s definitely wrong. It was a practice run for creating textures in Blender.
This learning project will one day be part of a finished film.
One of the most rewarding parts of creative work is the journey, the trial and error, the problem-solving, the adjusting, and finally getting an idea you had in your head, out into the world for others to see and experience.
All of this, just to say, DO THE THING.
